HowTo: Smart Bro DNS to OpenDNS on a Linksys router
Published by Jun | Filed under Howtos, Linksys, Networking
I’m having a hard time accessing my blogs including this blog - Tech.MoroBlog. Bob who is hosting some of the blogs i’ve emailed him why i can access some of site he’s hosting. The main domain is ok but when i created a subdomain theres it create a problem. It’s no more accessible.
After few exchanges of emails and Bob contacting the Support Tech of his dedicated server provider. It’s all fix in server’s end. So it’s the problem of local dns of Smart Bro.
In one of the email of Bob telling me that he uses OpenDNS. So i have no choice to try OpenDNS maybe it will fix my problem.
I’m using Linksys WRT54GL as my router in my little network back here in my boarding house. The router is connected to Smart Bro Fixed Wireless Broadband Internet. I just use Automatic Configuration - DHCP. It’s so easy really!
Heres the instructions.
1. Visit your router’s IP address in a browser window.
http://192.168.1.1 is the default Linksys router IP address.
2. Login using your admin username and password.
3. Type in OpenDNS addresses in Static DNS 1 and Static DNS 2 fields.
Please write down your current DNS settings before switching to OpenDNS, in case you want to return to your old settings for any reason.
The addresses for Open DNS are:
- 208.67.222.222
- 208.67.220.220
4. Click Save Settings button.
5. Restart your computer and router.
Heres the screenshot status of my linksys router. Now i can check my not resolving blog before.

Hi Jun - I’m glad it worked out for you! I’ve been using OpenDNS for about 2 years I guess, and it has always done a fine job for me!

I use OpenDNS at home too. But I’m having problems here at the office with my Bayantel DNS. I guess it’s time to switch. Congrats on your blog!
